KUALA LUMPUR: The Sabah police have begun investigations on a case of a male pupil being bullied by his classmate in Sabah, of which a video recording of the incident went viral on social media yesterday.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Abd Rashid Harun said the victim’s family had lodged a report at the Penampang district police station.
He said the incident allegedly happened at a religious school in Putatan, adding that police were in the midst of identifying the bully in the video.
The 2:27-minute video showed a male pupil, wearing a school uniform of white baju melayu, green sampin and black songkok, being beaten up by a classmate, with other classmates surrounding the two and just looking on.
The bully was seen punching and kicking the victim, and at one point, beating the latter with a plastic chair. The victim fell several times but picked himself up each time.
The bully was also seen trying to strangle the victim, but the boy didn’t fight back.
Disturbingly, some laughter were heard in the background. It was noted that there was more than one pupil recording the incident on their mobile phones.
No one came forward to help.
It is only towards the end of the recording that one pupil was overhead as saying “Sudahlah” (that’s enough), but the bully did not stop.
Netizens have condemned the incident and called on the police to investigate and take immediate action.
